First Day in the Hospital

Today we started our day bright and early at the National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases. We were delighted to have such a wonderful and kind host show us around, Dr. Gupta. We brought two suitcases filled with the lab supplies we need. Mary, our microbiologist who is running the DNA isolation, was able to get started on sub-culturing the resistant strains in question.

We were taken on a tour of the hospital.

We were shown the ICU, the general waiting area area where patients come in to be seen (who are all wearing masks due to the high rate of tuberculosis), and saw the sleep study room (pictured below).

After a long day of meeting everyone and being shown around, we are finally back at the hotel to rest. Tomorrow we will be off to see the Taj Mahal for a half day of sight seeing before heading into the hospital!
