Today was the start of the 3 day workshop on AMS (antimicrobial stewardship) in Bhutan. In anticipation of the hike later this weekend I made sure to wake up early to take advantage of the hotel fitness center, which has the most amazing views of any gym I’ve ever been too. I would have no issues exercising every morning before work if this was the view I had.
I walked into the meeting room to see a very colorful set of tables, and a room with over 180 degrees of windows with views of the surrounding Himalayas. I love the Bhutanese touch of the WHO Bhutan logo.
The meeting started with a formal ceremony and an introduction from the Ministry of Health.
This was followed by introductions of everyone in the room.
There were about 40 people present include those from WHO headquarters, WHO regional offices, WHO country offices, ministries of health, food and drug administrations, and other heads associated with AMS. Then there was me, I felt slightly inferior in my current level of training compared to all those around me, but I was exhilarated and grateful to be a part of this wonderful opportunity.
The day was long with many lectures, but they were full of amazing information and discussions among the groups. I felt like a part of the meeting as I was scheduled to help lead small group break-out sessions.
After this day we had an evening dinner with traditional food and a show of traditional dances. To see more about the dinner read along to the next post…
