Nepalese Temples

Writer's picture: GinaGina

During my stay in Nepal, I was able to find some time to visit some of the temples. They are amazing to see, and there are many temples, both large and small, in every area of Kathmandu.

Swayambhunath stupa  an ancient religious architecture atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu city. The other name for this is "Monkey Temple".. as you can see below there are an extreme amount of monkeys that hang around the area.

The Pashupatinath Temple is a famous and sacred Hindu temple complex that is located on the banks of the Bagmati River, in the Eastern part of Kathmandu Valley. Here cremations take place, which we were able to see one here when we visited.

To get there I took public transport, called a Tempo. It's a little vehicle that holds maybe 10 people on two benches , and the back is open to the street. I always love trying out public transportation.

Boudhanath Stupa is the largest stupa in Nepal. As a daily ritual, many people walk three or more times around the stupa while repeating the mantra 'Om Mani Padme Hum'

Bhaktapur Durbar Square is full of many beautiful buildings and temples, some still under construction rebuilding the damage caused by the large 2015 earthquake.

I highly recommend taking the time to visit the many temples while you are in Kathmandu. You will not be disappointed!
