The Lab

Writer's picture: GinaGina

On the drive into the hospital today, I couldn’t help but laugh at the line of cows walking up the road next to the cars. Something I don’t see back home in Detroit.

After collecting vials of water from around Kathmandu. We brought the vials to the lab at Kathmandu Model Hospital to test the samples for sign of antimicrobial resistance coming from the water.

Kathmandu Model Hospital is a busy hospital with limited space, and very limited lab space. There is plan to expand and to have more room for the lab, but at this time, the space is still very limited. There is only one small area to use, thus we must wait our turn until patient care is completed and the room opens up. Pictured below is the entire work area, with the microbiologist Basudha helping me plate the water samples.

In the evening it was time for a GTA Soccer match!  I couldn’t help but join in (despite a prior ACL tear from playing soccer in the past) . Pictured below is the winning team! Though I have to confess,  I played on both teams at some point in the game, so no matter who won I was part of the winning team.

The whole GTA crew at the soccer match below:

Happy Valentine’s Day! In this restaurant, it pays to be single…
