Today I was able to see the beautiful hospital in Kirtipur. It has a wonderful open layout, and you are able to see the mountains in the distance as you walk up the stairs between the hospital floors. This hospitals’ primary focus are burns and cleft palate repairs. It is the primary burn center for all of Nepal.
While here, Dr. Zervos and I gave a lecture at the regional symposium discussing burns and infections, and antimicrobial stewardship.
After the lecture we walked to lunch nearby. We passed some beautiful places on the way.
Lunch was an experience. We all sat on the ground in a circle. They brought out plates of food to share, along with homemade beer (rice wine) called Jaand, and a homemade liquor we had to try (so strong) called Raksi. I found out I was actually eating tongue and brain, it tasted a little better before I realized what it was …
On the way to our next meeting, we stopped at Monkey Temple (somehow today we only saw a few monkeys!)
We wrapped up the evening with another successful meeting full of ICU physicians, again spreading the word on antimicrobial stewardship, as well as topics such as fever in the ICU. The sunset view from the hotel of the meeting was amazing…
